With artists dropping songs with no run-up whatsoever, fans by now should be used to out-of-the-blue releases. Joining the ranks of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, both of whom released Everything Is Love before fans even knew what was happening, Justin Timberlake is now bidding for the song of the summer title with his single SoulMate; and he’s doing so fresh after releasing his album Man of the Woods, which came out not too long ago.

The song literally begins with the line ‘summer starts now,’ and the artist is making a heavy claim by doing so. The season has been good to him in the past. Can’t Stop the Feeling! was a summer release that was played relentlessly everywhere, but now his release is up against some stiff competition from the likes of the aforementioned Carters and, of course, Scorpion, Drake’s latest album. While the song genuinely is catchy with its tropical-sounding beats and JT’s promises of being someone’s soulmate for the night, only time will tell if it lives up to its declaration—or you can make that decision for yourself by listening to it here:
